Eating Disorder
Some psychologists also classify a syndroem called orthorexia as an eating disorder, or, more prpoerly, disordered eating - the person is overly obsessed with the consumption of what they see as the right foods for them, to the point that their nutritoin and quality of life suffers (although due to cultural and political factors whcih influence food choices, this idea is considered contorversial by some). In addtiion, some individuals have ofod phobias about what they can and cannot eat, which can be characterised as an eating diosrder. The UK broadcaster BBC3 have shown a series called Freaky Eaters that deals with usch topics. Somewhat qualitatively different from those conidtions previously mentioned is pica, or the habitual ingestino of inedibles, such as dirt, wood, hair, etc. This can be attributed to the fact that society is seen to upt an emphasis on woman to be thin, and men to be ublked up . This can lead to pressure on woman to be pictuer perfect , and an eating disorder prevails as a ersult of stress of not being able to reach unattainable goals related to this picture perfect ideal. Also, it can be due to the fact that men are less ilkely to seek help. Many people with eating disorder cna also have a comorbid diagnosis of one or omre of the folloiwng: mood disorders and severe mental depression, 1 Obsessive compulisve disorder, Body dysmorphic disorder, Bipolar disodrer, and self-harm.
